Russian as a Foreign Language

The Center for Intensive Foreign Language Instruction offers courses of Russian as a foreign language to foreign residents of Moscow, students from abroad, as well as classes for learners overseas.

The Center's clientele includes high-ranking members of the foreign community in Moscow, representatives of the largest companies and international organizations, embassies, banks, etc. The Russian language instructors have significant experience of working overseas. Among their long-standing partners are Russian Language Teachers Association of Finland, the Society for Russian Culture Studies of Italy, a number of universities of Canada, U.S.A. and other countries. We offer three steps of Russian as a foreign language:

Step 1

A brief adaptation course — 60 to 90 hours of classes. On completion of this survival course students will be able to learn to understand native Russian oral speech in everyday situations; to respond adequately while talking to native Russian speakers; to feel at home in a foreign language environment, having mastered the basics of grammar and speech etiquette.

Step 2

A reinforcement course — 90 to 120 hours. On successful completion of this grammar-focused course students will learn to understand oral and written speech in a wide range of everyday situations with a more detailed analysis of vocabulary and grammar; to speak and write using complex grammar patterns, enhanced vocabulary, including idioms; to analyze and systematize numerous grammatical structures; to understand Russian culture, history, literature, arts and traditions.

Step 3

An integrated language course — 90 to 120 hours. It teaches communication based on the knowledge of Russian culture, history and literature. Students will be able to learn to speak fluently with native speakers. This course includes programs tailored to the individual interests of the students: conversational Russian; communicative grammar; special language courses of students' choice: phonetics; translation or interpreting; style; business Russian; mass media; text analysis; one of the courses in Russian history, culture or literature (student's choice).

Apart from the immediate learning programs students are offered various activities, visits to places of interest, museums, historical sites, topical tours of Moscow and suburbs. The excursion plans are developed according to the chosen language course and to the customers' requests.

Testing

Students take placement tests, regular progress tests, and final evaluation tests which assess the skills they have acquired in reading, writing, speaking and listening, as well as their achievements in special courses. The placement and final tests are videotaped for comparison. A Certificate of Attendance is awarded to every student who has successfully completed the course.
